Stadium History
Wrigley Field opened in 1914 as Weeghman Park. The ivy was planted in 1937, and the iconic hand-operated scoreboard was installed in 1937. The ballpark didn't have lights until 1988, making it the last MLB stadium to install them. The rooftop seating on surrounding buildings has become a Wrigley tradition. Recent renovations have modernized amenities while preserving the park's historic character.
